Brewer Description: (from bottle) Our 27th Anniversary Imperial Porter was brewed with Theo’s cocoa nibs, pomegranate molasses and select spices, blended with apricot puree, and then aged in bourbon barrels. The result is a truly exquisite ale with bold chocolate character, inspired flavors of fruit, and just a pinch of spice. The perfect way for us to celebrate our golden birthday with you!

Intro: A 22 fl. oz. black waxed bomber, 27th birthday reserve, with a best after date of 20th July 2016. Poured into a snifter glass.
Appearance: Dark brown with an orange hue, and a thin khaki head that dissipated quickly, while leaving some sparse spotty lacing.
Aroma: Roasty, cocoa nibs, chocolate, fruity, tangy, dried apricot, orange, with soft bourbon notes.
Taste: Moderately roasty, chocolate, cocoa nibs, vanilla, lightly sweet, molasses, fruity, dried apricot, orange marmalade, pomegranate, and a hint of bourbon.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.
Overall: Interesting series of adjuncts that I wouldn’t have put together, but results in an interesting and pretty enjoyable sipper.

Other Notes: 2015 Reserve. 65% ale aged in French oak wine barrels and 35% ale brewed with cherries

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Introducing our wildest brew yet, The Dissident – a distinctive Belgian-style brown ale. Fermented with wild yeast, we have to isolate this brew so as not to influence the others. Otherwise, we just might have anarchy on our hands. Here’s to solitary confinement and shared exploration.

Intro: A 1 pint 6 fl. oz. waxed bomber, 2015 Reserve, with a best after date of 30th October 2016. Poured into a Holy Mountain tulip glass.
Appearance: A mostly clear amber brown colour with a one finger beige head that had decent retention and left some nice lacing.
Aroma: Tart, cherry, vinous, light acetone, oak, caramel notes, and a touch of vinegar.
Taste: Lightly sour and tart, cherry, red grape, plum, vinous, oak, caramel, light boozy.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: ABV was higher than expected, although the waxed bottle probably should have hinted in that direction. There was a slight boozy feel, but despite that it was still smooth, enjoyable and easy to drink.

Imperial Stout brewed with black strap molasses and licorice, dry spiced with cherry bark and vanilla bean, 21% aged in oak bourbon barrels, 21% aged in oak wine barrels, and 8% aged in new Oregon oak barrels.

Intro: A 22 fl. oz. bomber, 2016 Reserve, bottled on 8th December 2016. Poured into a snifter glass.
Appearance: Very dark brown to black in colour with a nice one finger brown head that had decent retention, while leaving lots of nice spotty lacing.
Aroma: Dark malt, moderate roast, chocolate, sweet notes, licorice, molasses, bourbon, oak.
Taste: Light bitterness, roasted malts, dark chocolate, light char, sweet notes, brown sugar, licorice, molasses, oak and bourbon on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, smooth, full bodied with soft carbonation.
Overall: An excellent classic Imperial Stout with lots of great flavours and not too sweet. A wonderful and enjoyable sipper.

Deschutes Jubelale

Other Notes: 65 IBUs. Malts – Pale, Crystal, Extra Special, Carapils and Roasted Barley. Hops – Bravo, Cascade, Delta, Tettnang, East Kent and Goldings

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Cocoa, dried fruit, and toffee notes. A robust ale with a warming spice.

Intro: A 355ml bottle with a best before date of 3rd April 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A very nice clear dark amber colour with big almost three finger tanned head with great retention and left lots of nice lacing.
Aroma: Caramel malts, toffee and dark berries.
Taste: Milk chocolate, cocoa, roasty coffee, toasted bread, raisin and prune sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with low to moderate carbonation.
Overall: This was ok, but I didn’t really get the warming spices that were supposedly there.

Other Notes: 55 IBUs. Malts – Pale, Crystal, Carapils, Munich, Black Barley, Roasted Barley and Wheat. Hops – Nugget, Bravo, Delta and Northern Brewer

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Notes of espresso and dark chocolate with a roasty finish.

Intro: A 355ml bottle with a best before date of 30th January 2017, poured into a Spiegelau Stout glass.
Appearance: Black in colour with a big frothy three fingered mocha brown head with pretty good retention and great lacing.
Aroma: Light roasty, milk chocolate, coffee and a hint of raspberries.
Taste: Sweet-ish milk chocolate, a touch of dark fruit with a bitter roast coffee bean and espresso finish.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium to light bodied with mild carbonation.
Overall: An easy to drink Stout with nice chocolate and coffee notes.
