Intro: A 12 fl oz bottle with a best by date of 19th April 2016. Poured into a Moonzen teku glass. Appearance: It poured a clear golden copper colour with a one finger slightly off white head that dissipates quickly leaving only a little lacing. Aroma: Bready and biscuit malt with a hint of caramel, fruity pineapple and apricot. Taste: A strong bready malt backbone with some nice light apricot, grapefruit, pine and grass. Mouthfeel: Light bodied with medium carbonation. Overall: It’s easy to drink and nice and fruity. A decent beer but nothing spectacular.

Intro: A 12 fl oz bottle with a best by date of 13th May 2016 and poured into a Duvel tulip glass. Appearance: It poured a cloudy pale golden colour with a one finger white head that dissipated quickly but leaves some nice lacing. Aroma: Strong banana and bubblegum sweetness followed closely by some citrus and coriander. Taste: Much like the aroma, there is strong banana, honey and bubblegum sweetness followed by some citrus orange and coriander and finishes with a light but lingering lemon zest bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with mid to high carbonation. Overall: A good mix of Witbier and IPA. This was extremely drinkable and refreshing. I could definitely see myself drinking this quite a lot during hot summers.

Intro: A 12 fl oz bottle with a best by date of 7th May 2016 and poured into a Moonzen Teku glass. Appearance: It poured a clear amber copper colour with a two finger off white head that retains pretty well, leaving nice streaky lacing. Aroma: Grapefruit, pine, mandarin, apple, brown sugar and hints of pineapple and grassiness. Taste: Bready and caramel malt sweetness heavy with bitter grapefruit pith and juicy grapefruit on the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Overall: This was pretty good but perhaps a bit too malt heavy for my liking.

Intro: A 12 fl oz bottle with a best by date of 11th November 2015 and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Appearance: The beer poured a clear copper amber colour. There was a huge three finger light tan head that had good retention and left plenty of stringy lacing. Aroma: Strong piney and grassy aromas with hints of citrus lemon zest. There is also some light caramel malts and apple juice there. Taste: Bready and caramel malts upfront followed by plenty of pine and hop bitterness. There are hints of apple juice and grapefruit in between and a long lasting bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with light carbonation. Overall: This was a good IPA if not stunning although I prefer more carbonation. But Fresh Squeezed is still my go to IPA from Deschutes.

Brewer Description: (from website) With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.
(from bottle) An opening volley, this pioneering dark ale signaled Deschutes’ renegade intentions. Its creamy mouthfeel, complex layers, hop edge and chocolate finish personify passion-forward brewing.

Intro: This 12oz bottle was dated best by 3rd July 2015 and was poured into a pint glass. Appearance: It poured a really dark brown with a half finger tan head that dissipates quickly leaving a generous amount of lacing. Aroma: Smelled lightly of espresso coffee with some chocolate and maybe a bit of dark fruits like prunes. Would have preferred a stronger smell. Taste: Immediate taste of dark bitter chocolate with roasty malts and a slight herbal bitter ending. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, medium carbonation and somewhat creamy. Overall: This was a nice porter that I would buy again… if only it were that easy in Hong Kong.
