My ratebeer.com rating: 3.4

Intro: A 330ml can with a best before date of 8th November 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A hazy dark amber colour with a two finger off white head that had good retention and left lots of nice lacing.
Aroma: A bit light but there’s citrus and tropical grapefruit, melon and peach with hints of caramel and pine.
Taste: Bitter grapefruit, citrus orange, pine, grass and caramel maltiness. The booziness was also actually quite obvious here.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: This was ok, but the malts overpowered the hops and it was surprisingly boozy.

Intro: A 330ml can with a best before date of 8th November 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A clear orangey dark amber colour with a one finger off white head that had good retention and left nice lacing.
Aroma: Grapefruit, grass, citrus tea and a hint of sweet caramel malt.
Taste: Orange juice, grapefruit, grass, pine, caramel malt and spicy peppery notes.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Second to Simcoe, but better than Citra and Mosaic. The malts overpowered the supposed showcased hops though, but it was still nice.

Mikkeller Årh Hvad?!

Brewery: Mikkeller ApS
Country: Denmark
ABV: 6.8%
Style: Belgian Pale Ale
Other Notes: Brewed & bottled by Mikkeller at De Proef Brouwerij

Brewer Description: (from Mikkeller blog) Originally created as a tribute to one of Mikkeller’s favourite beers, Årh Hvad is a great accompaniment to cheeses. A Belgian Ale with cloudy amber colour and white head. The taste is a combination of pepper, malt and hops. Årh Hvad finishes with notes of strawberries and nutty malt and a light hopped grapefruit finish.

Intro: A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 23rd October 2023. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A hazy dark orange, copper, amber colour with a huge two finger fluffy off white head that kept growing out the glass with great retention and lots of sticky lacing.
Aroma: Tart berries, brett, funky, grape with hints of white wine and citrusy mandarin, orange on the back end.
Taste: Lightly sour to start with berries, plum, orange, pine, pepper spice and florally with a lightly bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with low to moderate carbonation.
Overall: This was interesting as it was created as a tribute to Orval, and while there are some similarities, I still preferred Orval (which I had side by side) and which I felt had a smoother and better flavour profile.

Intro: A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 17th August 2026. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A dark amber brown colour with a big three finger off white head that had good retention and left great sticky lacing.
Aroma: Caramel, sweet malts, dark fruit plum and raisins with a hint of chocolate.
Taste: Sweet caramel and toffee, plum, raisins, candied sugar, black coffee bitterness, orange, spices and booze.

Overall: It’s probably overly sweet for my liking. In addition there is quite a lot of booze coming through especially as it warms and in the end, probably too much.
