Intro: A 375ml bottle with a best before date of 27th January 2025. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.
Appearance: A hazy copper orange colour with a one finger white head that dissipated fairly quickly and left only sparse to no lacing.
Aroma: Funky, sour, tart, unripe apple cider vinegar with hints of apricot.
Taste: Sour, tart, green apple and vinegar with hints of apricot and funk.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: The vinegar and sourness was overpowering and hid much of the funk and fruit.

Intro: A 375ml bottle with a best before date of 10th August 2027. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.
Appearance: A lightly hazy reddish purple colour with a two finger pinkish head that dissipated quickly but left only sparse lacing.
Aroma: Blackberry, tart, vinous, funk and oak.
Taste: Funky, sour, tart, vinous and lemon with only a touch of berries.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate to low carbonation.
Overall: Nice blackberry aromas which didn’t quite come through as much in the taste as I would have preferred, as the funk and sour lemon were a little overpowering.

Intro: A 375ml corked and caged bottle, with a best before date of 14th August 2027. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A lightly hazy reddish orange colour with a one finger tanned orange head that dissipated fairly quickly and left only sparse to no lacing.
Aroma: Tart, red berry fruits, funky, leather, with hints of lemon and oak.
Taste: Very sour, tart, lemon, red berries, funk and oak with maybe just a hint of beetroot.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Seems to be one of the more sour beers in the Spontan lineup that I’ve tried. Unfortunately the beetroot flavours couldn’t really come through and were rather weak, and instead I was getting quite a bit of red berries. Still, quite nice, but not what I was hoping for given its called Spontanbeetroot.

Mikkeller Spontanlychee

Brewery: Mikkeller ApS
Country: Denmark
ABV: 7.7%
Style: Belgian Lambic (Fruit)
Other Notes: Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proef Brouwerij, Belgium

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Sour ale brewed with lychee & aged in oak barrels.

My rating: 4
My beeradvocate.com rating: 4.08
My ratebeer.com rating: 4

Intro: A 375ml bottle with a best before date of 15th June 2027. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A clear copper colour with a two finger white head that had decent retention and left some nice lacing.
Aroma: Light tartness, lychee, white grape, light funk and oak.
Taste: Lightly sour, light lychee, grape, funk and oak.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: This was nice. Lychee definitely could be stronger as I’m finding quite a few elderflower beers with stronger lychee flavours, however aside from the fruit, this was one of the more balanced Spontan beers in the lineup.

Intro: A 500ml can, with a best before date of 14th February 2019. Poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
Appearance: A hazy golden orange colour with a big three finger white head that had good retention and left lots of nice sticky lacing.
Aroma: Orange peel, rind, apricot, mango and hints of grass.
Taste: Grass, pine, apricot, lightly bitter, orange rind and peel, and lemon zest.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Nice flavours and enjoyable. I did glance over a lot of reviews saying that it was overly sweet. Made me wonder if we are drinking different beers!
