My beeradvocate.com rating: 3.86
My ratebeer.com rating: 3.7

Intro: A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 25th November 2016 and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
Appearance: It poured a slightly hazy golden orange with a one finger white head.
Aroma: Strong tropical aromas mainly of pineapple, peach, apricot and mango.
Taste: Taste was a bit more subdued with light mango and peach to start. This was followed by some grass, light grapefruit and lemon bitterness on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with light carbonation.
Overall: There was some great aromas here, but the taste could have used a kick as it was a bit weak. It could also have used a bit more carbonation. Having said that, it was still pleasant and easy to drink.

Clown Shoes Evil Crawfish

Brewery: Clown Shoes Beer
Country: USA
ABV: 9%
Style: American Imperial Red Ale
Other Notes: Self styled Imperial Red India Pale Ale. Brewed and bottled by Mercury Brewing Co., Ipswich, MA.

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Once upon a time a man walked into a bar where a friend of ours was tending the taps. He tried to order an Eagle Claw Fist, but got it wrong, and asked for an Evil Crawfish. When we heard the story, after much laughter, we knew one day we’d make the beer. Finally, here it is, built off of ECF, but cleaner, meaner, less bitter, and dry hopped with Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin.

Intro: A 22 fl oz bomber bottled on 20th January 2016 and poured into a Duvel tulip glass.
Appearance: It poured a clear amber copper colour with a slightly less than two finger off white head that had pretty good retention and left nice lacing.
Aroma: Sweet biscuity caramel malt followed by some juicy apple, plum, pine and grass.
Taste: Starts with nice sweet malt with caramel and biscuit notes followed by prune sweetness. Bitterness comes through on the finish with pine, grass and orange peel.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with slightly less than moderate carbonation.
Overall: This was well balanced for me. It’s not my favourite style but this was pretty good with its nice lasting bitterness.

Rogue XS Imperial India Pale Ale

Brewery: Rogue Ales
Country: USA
ABV: 9.5%
Style: American Double IPA
Other Notes: 95 IBUs. Malts – Weyermann Pale Ale and Rogue Farms Dare and Risk. Hops – Rogue Farms Newport, Freedom and Bravo.

Brewer Description: The Rogue XS Imperial IPA is above and beyond an India Pale Ale. Dubbed ‘I2PA’, this ale is radically hopped and the result is an intense aroma and hop bitterness. XS Imperial IPA is unfiltered and aged for 9 months before it leaves the brewery – not for the faint of heart!

Intro: A 750ml ceramic and wingtop bottle with no bottled on or best by date. Poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
Appearance: It poured a hazy amber orange copper colour with a one finger dark-ish cream coloured head that dissipated fairly quickly but left nice lacing.
Aroma: Sweet caramel malts with juicy orange, tangerine, grapefruit and pine.
Taste: Much like the aroma, sweet citrus tangerine and orange, some light caramel followed by bitter grapefruit pith and pine. The finish is a nice lasting citrus bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with low carbonation.
Overall: This was a pretty good Double IPA with a good balance between sweet and bitter. A little more carbonation would have been good, but nonetheless still nice.

My ratebeer.com rating: 3.5

Intro: A 500ml bottle from batch #1328 with a best before date of 15th December 2016 and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
Appearance: It poured a clear dark amber orange colour with a one finger off white head that leaves nice lacing.
Aroma: Heavy citrus orange and grapefruit with a hint of floralness and caramel.
Taste: Sweet-ish pineapple and grapefruit hop bitterness with some light caramel malt. The grapefruit bitterness sticks around for a while.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with light to medium carbonation.
Overall: A pretty decent Double IPA with good lasting bitterness. It’s still well within its best before date, but I have to wonder if a fresher bottle would be even more impressive.

De Molen Knippen & Scheren

Brewery: Brouwerij De Molen
Country: Netherlands
ABV: 9.5%
Style: American Double IPA
Other Notes: 56 IBUs. Malts – Pils and Caramel. Hops – bittering (Columbus, Amarillo, Simcoe and Saaz), dry hop (Citra and Mosaic).

Brewer Description: (from De Molen Facebook post) Beer is like evolution: small mistakes lead to improved versions of already advanced life forms. So, when our bearded brewer “decided” to dry-hop one of our beers against its will… we got a wonderful interesting dry-hopped Belgian style triple. Perfect to warm your winter evenings!

We called the newly born Knippen & Scheren (Cut & Shave) because the brewer is obviously too hairy but it also means in Dutch that you’re going to tell someone how to do things the right way.

Intro: A 12 fl oz pour on draft at The Roundhouse Chicken + Beer into a pint glass.
Appearance: It was a slightly hazy deep golden colour with a one finger white head that dissipated fairly quickly but left nice lacing.
Aroma: A mix of citrus orange and tropical peach and mango with a hint of caramel.
Taste: Caramel malts, some pine and citrus grapefruit to start before a hit of butterscotch and honey towards the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with mid to low carbonation.
Overall: The description says that this is a Tripel, but it definitely feels more like a Double IPA and even the bottle has the words Imperial IPA-ish on it. It’s a decent DIPA, and I would drink this again.
