Mikkeller 1000 IBU

Brewery: Mikkeller ApS
Country: Denmark
ABV: 9.6%
Style: American Double IPA
Other Notes: Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proef Brouwerij, Belgium

Brewer Description: (from bottle) American-style Imperial India Pale Ale.

My rating: 3
My beeradvocate.com rating: 3.44
My ratebeer.com rating: 3.2

Intro: A 330ml bottle, with a best before date of 21st September 2019. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A hazy dark copper colour with quite a lot of very small suspended particles, a two finger beige head that had good retention and left behind lots of nice sticky lacing.
Aroma: Caramel maltiness, mango, pine, grapefruit zest and orange rind.
Taste: Sweet, caramel malt, resinous pine, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel and brown sugar.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Not bad, but it’s not exactly what I want my DIPA’s to be like. Approaching like a Barleywine and on the verge of being too sweet in my opinion. Once is enough for me.

Abnormal New Money (Vic Secret)

Brewery: Abnormal Beer Company
Country: USA
ABV: 7%
Style: American IPA
Other Notes: Hazy India Pale Ale. Hops – Nugget, Cascade, Citra, Simcoe and Vic Secret

Brewer Description: (from can) This Hazy IPA is a showcase of some of the most hipster millennial hops one can acquire. In this edition of our rotating series, we bring you Vic Secret, and no we didn’t dry hop with any lace or glitter. Strong fruity character and resiny pine dominate on the nose and flavor, finishing juicy and creamy. Remember, a nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore… unless you’re talking about New Money IPA. The symbol above is the currency symbol for bitcoin, the pioneer of cryptocurrency which, like this beer, is an innovative take on an existing paradigm.

Intro: A 1 pint can, canned on 16th July 2018, ‘Love spell’. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A hazy golden straw orange colour with a two finger white head that dissipated quickly while leaving some sparse lacing.
Aroma: Witbier like with strong sweet banana, clove and coriander. Lightly herbal with hints of pear, grass and citrus zest. Not at all what I was expecting.
Taste: What a strange one to describe. Less Witbier tones, although it’s still there with the banana and clove. I want to say the major flavour I get is pear juice. Hints of floral and grass as well as honey here and there.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Not at all what I was expecting. Based on aroma and flavour, it seems closer to a Witbier than an IPA let alone NEIPA, but the aroma and flavours were very apparent and not bad at all. Worth a try.

Young Master Galactic Passion

Brewery: Young Master Brewery
Country: Hong Kong
ABV: 5.7%
Style: International Sour Ale
Other Notes: 10 IBUs. Juicy, tart, hoppy

Brewer Description: (from YM webshop) GaLactic Passion is an extension of a sour IPA we once brewed. We decided to double down on the passion fruity notes of the hops with copious amounts of actual passion fruit. This is juicy beyond compare and truly out of this world.

Intro: A 330ml can with a best before date of 27th March 2019. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A clear golden colour with a two finger white head that had good retention while leaving behind some lacing.
Aroma: Passionfruit, guava, candy, light tartness and funk, lemon zest and lime zest.
Taste: Tart, lemon, passionfruit, grass and light floral. The flavours are quite good, but disappear quickly.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Slightly too watery.
Overall: I liked the aroma, but generally it was a bit too watery and the flavours while not bad, disappeared quite quickly and abruptly. Although I didn’t review it, I remember the previous Galactic Passion Sour IPA which I had in a crowler (maybe a few months to a year ago), came out much better.

Gweilo Pilsner

Brewery: Gweilo Brewery
Country: Hong Kong
ABV: 4.2%
Style: German Pilsner
Other Notes: 25 IBUs. Core Range

Brewer Description: (from can) Gweilo Pilsner is a refreshingly modern take on a classic style. A late addition of Hallertau gives a unique floral and fruity aroma. This works in harmony with the pilsner malt base and crispness from the yeast, creating a vibrant, crushable beer.
