Pellicle Satureja

Brewery: Pellicle Vergistingen
Country: Belgium
ABV: 6%
Style: Lambic – Fruit
Other Notes: 2024 vintage

Brewer Description: (from bottle) In 2022 we macerated Gorsem cherries on 2 year old lambic and barrel aged it after 6 months of maceration for another year. In 2023 we did the same; maceration of Gorsem cherries on 2 year old lambic for 6 months. We blended these 2 cherry lambics together and added fresh Satureja herb to them.

My rating: 4+
My beeradvocate.com rating: 4.37

Intro: A 750ml corked and capped bottle, 2024 vintage, with a best before date of January 2027. Poured into a Tilquin stemmed glass.
Appearance: A very nice deep ruby red colour with a one finger pink head that had good retention, and left some nice lacing.
Aroma: Tart, cherry, blackberry, sweet mandarin, lemon zest, with a hint of thyme.
Taste: Sour, tart, cherry, marzipan notes, almond, lemon zest, and a hint of herbal like thyme (which I’m guessing is from the satureja).
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Nice aroma and flavours with an interesting herbal touch that works well with the cherries.

Badlands Kiwi

Brewery: Badlands Brewing
Country: Canada
ABV: 6.5%
Style: IPA – New England / Hazy
Other Notes: Hops – Nelson Sauvin, Riwaka and Motueka

Brewer Description: (from can) New Zealand produces some of the finest hops in the world. Their growing region has a character unlike any other in the hop world and we are exceptionally smitten by it. Some of our favorite varieties to blend with come from the region, which is why we wanted to brew a beer that was aggressively hopped with some of our favy mcfavorites, and the results are sublime.

Dry hopped with the holy New Zealand trifecta of Nelson Sauvin, Riwaka, and Motueka we taste heaven… but also gooseberry, lime, tropical fruit and dank berries.

My rating: 4
My beeradvocate.com rating: 4.38

Intro: A 473ml can, canned on 26th December 2024. Poured into a winebar glass.
Appearance: A hazy pale milky yellow colour with a one finger white head that had good retention, and left nice lacing.
Aroma: Gooseberry, white wine grapes, lime zest, candied berries.
Taste: White grapes, gooseberry, lime, with notes of tropical berries.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: An enjoyable NEIPA showcasing some of the best New Zealand hops varieties.

Badlands Fog (2025)

Brewery: Badlands Brewing
Country: Canada
ABV: 6.5%
Style: IPA – New England / Hazy
Other Notes: Hops – Citra, Superdelic and Nectaron

Brewer Description: (from can) This is the very first beer we ever brewed as a brewery. It was batch numero uno but it never saw the light of day because almost everything went wrong on that first beer (the final death punch was the glycol loop dying in late June 2017, and fermentation getting wayyyyy too hot).

When it was first brewed it had a working name of “Fog.” We decided it was finally time to bring it back, pretty different recipe (trust us, its better now!), same working name (which has been promoted to its “for eva eva” name).

Hopped with Citra, Superdelic and Nectaron we taste notes of navel orange, lime, nostalgia, and tropical fruit candy.

My rating: 3+
My beeradvocate.com rating: 3.98

Intro: A 473ml can, canned on 26th December 2024. Poured into a winebar glass.
Appearance: A hazy pale milky yellow colour with a big three finger white head that had good retention, and left nice lacing.
Aroma: Mandarin, melon, lime, with notes of tropical fruit candy.
Taste: Candied citrus zesty sweetness, mandarin, melon, lime.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Preferred the aroma over the flavour, as the flavour just wasn’t as juicy as the aroma suggested it could have been.
