Intro: A 330ml can with a best before date of 8th November 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass. Appearance: A hazy dark amber colour with a two finger off white head that had good retention and left lots of nice lacing. Aroma: A bit light but there’s citrus and tropical grapefruit, melon and peach with hints of caramel and pine. Taste: Bitter grapefruit, citrus orange, pine, grass and caramel maltiness. The booziness was also actually quite obvious here. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall: This was ok, but the malts overpowered the hops and it was surprisingly boozy.

Intro: A 330ml can with a best before date of 8th November 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass. Appearance: A clear orangey dark amber colour with a one finger off white head that had good retention and left nice lacing. Aroma: Grapefruit, grass, citrus tea and a hint of sweet caramel malt. Taste: Orange juice, grapefruit, grass, pine, caramel malt and spicy peppery notes. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall: Second to Simcoe, but better than Citra and Mosaic. The malts overpowered the supposed showcased hops though, but it was still nice.

Intro: A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 3rd November 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass. Appearance: A hazy murky straw yellow colour with a one finger white head that dissipated fairly quickly but left some nice lacing. Aroma: Juicy tropical but unripe mango and papaya with citrusy orange rind and lemon with maybe a hint of grapefruit. Taste: Bitter orange rind and grapefruit to begin, followed by breadiness, mandarin, pineapple and mango. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate to light carbonation. Overall: A balanced and enjoyable IPA that is easy to drink.
Brewery: Cigar City Brewing Country: USA ABV: 7.5% Style: American IPA
Brewer Description: (from can) Jai Alai, the “merry game,” is a game native to the Basque region of Spain. Tampa was once home to this high speed game, but sadly all that remains here is this India Pale Ale that we brewed in tribute to the merry game. Pair Jai Alai India Pale Ale with Empanadas, Deviled Crabs and other spicy dishes.

Intro: A 12 fl oz can with a canned on date of 21st March 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass. Appearance: A slightly hazy light copper orange colour with a two finger slightly off white head that had great retention and left lots of nice lacing. Aroma: Lots of citrus grapefruit peel, orange rind and lemon with hints of tropical pineapple and pine. Taste: A nice sweet-ish malty caramel and biscuit backbone, followed by some nice citrus grapefruit and orange with a touch of pineapple and a mildly bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall: To be fair, perhaps this was hidden in my fridge a bit too long. It was however, still well balanced and enjoyable to drink.
Brewery: Boston Beer Company Country: USA ABV: 6.5% Style: American IPA
Brewer Description: Didn’t try too hard to find, but the official description for the Rebel IPA was already replaced by the newer 2017 version, of which this was not.
My rating: 3 My beeradvocate.com rating: 3.47 My ratebeer.com rating: 3.3
Intro: A 355ml bottle with a notched best before date of March 2018. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass. Appearance: A nice and clear dark orange copper colour with an almost two finger white head with good retention while leaving lots of nice lacing. Aroma: Sweet caramel and biscuit malt with hints of grapefruit and pine. Taste: Very malty caramel and biscuit, with light pine and grapefruit and some lasting bitterness on the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a dry-ish finish. Overall: Not bad, but too malty an IPA for my liking. Apparently the new version of the Rebel IPA they made in 2017 is more tropical fruity and I feel that may be more my thing.
