Mikkeller Citrus Dream

Brewery: Mikkeller ApS
Country: Denmark
ABV: 5%
Style: Fruit Beer
Other Notes: Brewed and bottled by Mikkeller at De Proef Brouwerij.

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Pilsner brewed with orange and lemon peel.

My rating: 2
My beeradvocate.com rating: 3.23
My ratebeer.com rating: 2.9

Intro: This was a 330ml bottle with a best before date of 26th November 2016 on the bottle cap.
Appearance: The beer was poured into a Duvel tulip glass a slightly hazy golden orange colour with a half finger white head that dissipated really quickly. There was some slight thin lacing.
Aroma: Initial whiff of mandarin orange, some tropical mango, and a finish of bittery lemon peel.
Taste: Very light fruity citrus orange to start but that quickly changes to a mixture of bready malts and bitter grassy hops.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied, mild carbonation and dry.
Overall: This was not quite what I was expecting from a fruit beer. While the aromas were great, I felt that the taste left the fruity phase way too quickly and it became almost lager like. I like Mikkeller but this one didn’t really work for me and was only ok.

Delirium Red

Let me preface this by saying that I like everything about cough syrup. I like the smell, I love the taste. Now having said that, knowing the Delirium brand, I had high hopes for this beer. This 330ml bottle has a best before date of the end of November 2016.

Brewery: Brouwerij Huyghe
Country: Belgium
ABV: 8%
Style: Fruit Beer

Brewer Description: (from website) Sweet and fruity, with a nice balance between sweet and sour. An excellent dessert beer.

My rating: 2
My beeradvocate.com rating: 2.73
My ratebeer.com rating: 2.8

Appearance: Poured into a tulip glass a deep cloudy ruby red with a less than one finger light pink head that dissipates quickly leaving some streaky lacing.
Aroma: Sweet bubblegum cherry, candy cane, almond.
Taste: Sweet sweet cherry, then sour cherry, then a lasting bitter cherry. I’m fine with medicinal tastes and cherry, but this was just odd… maybe a bit artificial, and the balance was not really there. But there’s absolutely no hint of the 8% alcohol.
Mouthfeel: Light with low carbonation.
Overall: Like I said, I like the medicinal/cough syrup tastes and the colour and the smell of the beer after the pour were great. However the taste was just a mix bag of all over the place. I think that there are better beers out there for this style. If it was in front of me, I would drink it, but I’m not sure that I would buy this beer again.

Birra del Borgo Rubus

Brewery: Birra del Borgo
Country: Italy
ABV: 5.8%
Style: Fruit Beer
Other Notes: 21 IBU

Brewer Description: (from website) A romantic love story in a shade of pink between raspberries and our Duchessa. A passionate adventure made of spontaneous and controlled fermentation, passion, time. An extraordinary plot, to be sipped until the last drop. Rubus idaeus – raspberry – is the main character, our spelt beer Duchessa is the starting point. 100 grams of fresh fruit are added for every liter of beer; they start a wild fermentation that gives the beer a unique profile with a marked sharpness, well balanced by the berries’ smell. It perfectly substitutes a pink sparkling wine as an aperitif.

My rating: 4
My beeradvocate.com rating: 3.98
My ratebeer.com rating: 3.8

Intro: A unique bottle shape and raspberries practically sold itself to me. A 330ml bottle poured into a La Chouffe tulip glass. Label on the back says best before October 2016.
Appearance: Poured a pinkish copper (rosa according to their own website), small amount of haze and very light head
Aroma: First thought was apple juice, then lots of tart raspberries
Taste: Definitely sour, acidic, tart raspberries and strawberry
Mouthfeel: Very crisp, light body, light carbonation but a bit sticky at the end
Overall: Went down easy like drinking juice. I like the sour tart raspberry flavour but would have preferred more carbonation
