Kemker Hiärfst

Brewery: Kemker Kultuur
Country: Germany
ABV: 6%
Style: Gruit
Other Notes: Gruit Seasons

Brewer Description: (from bottle) This series of four herbal beers is dedicated to the seasons. Each beer stands for a particular season, so you can drink your way through the year. In autumn we foraged bogmyrtle, which lend the beer its orangy and resinous aroma. This blend matured on average 10 months in red wine barrels.

Aroma: Orange gummy, doughy, apricot, apple peel, herbal, oak.
Taste: Tart, orange, orange zest, apricot, herbal, woody, light funk, with a touch of mint.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
Overall: A nice enjoyable Gruit, but of the seasons, I preferred Winter.

Rodenbach Alexander

Brewery: Brouwerij Rodenbach N.V.
Country: Belgium
ABV: 5.6%
Style: Flanders Red Ale
Other Notes: Matured Ale with sour cherries. Aged in oak foeders

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Rodenbach Alexander is a Sour Ale brewed with fruit. It is a blend of 2/3rd aged Rodenbach (100% 2 year aged beer) with 1/3rd ‘young ale’, macerated with sour cherries. The natural flavor and taste of sour cherries is bringing a perfect match between the sour beer and the red fruit.

Intro: A 750ml corked and capped bottle. Bottled in November 2019. Poured into a Tilquin stemmed glass.
Appearance: A nice slightly hazy ruby cherry red colour, with a thin white head that dissipated quickly to a ring around the glass, while leaving some spotty lacing.
Aroma: Light funk, woody, blackberry, blueberry, grape skin, lemon zest, with notes of vanilla.
Taste: Lightly sour, tart, blackberry, blueberry, green vines, lemon zest, with maybe a hint of vanilla.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied with moderate to soft carbonation.
Overall: The blend sounded great and like it would go together well. It drank quite good, but it didn’t have much complexity, almost just like fruit juice, and lacked any funk and noticeable vanilla.

Appearance: A very nice lightly hazy ruby red colour with a one finger pinkish head that had decent retention, but eventually settled to a ring around the glass, while leaving some nice lacing.
