Cloudwater A•W18 Brewed All Season DIPA

Brewery: Cloudwater Brew Co.
Country: England
ABV: 8.5%
Style: New England / Hazy Double IPA
Other Notes: Autumn-Winter 18. Aroma & Flavour – Ripe mango supported by peach and passion fruit, with a light, sweet malt profile. Body – Full-bodied, smooth and juicy. Aftertaste – Soft peach and mango sweetness, very low bitterness

Brewer Description: (from can) Double IPA is a style close to our hearts and one we’ve worked hard to continually refine. This beer is the result of two years’ experience in developing recipes that are deliciously drinkable at a higher ABV, delivering clean and precise flavours. Thick body and sweetness provide the platform to showcase juicy mango, peach and passion fruit.

Intro: A 440ml can, canned on 29th January 2019. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A hazy mango juice orange colour with an almost two finger white head that had decent retention, while leaving some spotty lacing.
Aroma: Super ripe mango juice with hints of peach and citrus zest.
Taste: Bittersweet, grapefruit zest, orange peel, orange, mango, peach and a light spicy peppery finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with moderate to soft carbonation.
Overall: Great aroma full of juice while taste was more bitter citrus than juice. In the end the juice and bitterness were balanced, but my favourite haze’s are all juice.

Young Master x Cloudwater Be Water My Friend

Brewery: Young Master Brewery x Cloudwater Brew Co.
Country: Hong Kong
ABV: 8%
Style: American IPL
Other Notes: DDH Brut Imperial Lager. 30 IBUs. Stealthy, hoppy, kick

Brewer Description: (from YM webshop) A colossal beer that seamlessly transcends rigid style barriers in one fluid motion. Brewed in collaboration with one of world’s best brewers, Cloudwater, it is an imperial lager that employs brut-style brewing techniques and combines it with double intensity (~40g/L pellet equivalent) cold side hopping with the highest quality hops we can find. With a measured finishing gravity of 0 plato and 100% apparent attenuation, using Bavarian lager yeast fermented cold, this beer is as dry and clean as it gets and has near zero residual sugar. Massive dry-hopping with a heady combination of Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe and Loral lupulin delivers a powerful tropical nose and a lush juicy mid-palate before a crisp and satisfying dry finish takes over and prepares you for the next sip. At 8%, it is sure to deliver a powerful kick that is as hoppy as it is stealthy. Drink it and be water, my friend.

Aroma: Mango, passionfruit, blueberry, citrus rind, pine, lemon and grass.
Taste: Tropical and citrus mix, mango, passionfruit, blueberry, citrus rind, lemon zest, pine, biscuit malt and an interesting lightly bitter, pepper spice finish.
Mouthfeel: Dry, light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Great aroma with balanced fruit and bitterness for an easy to drink hoppy lager.

Intro: A 440ml can, canned on 16th November 2018. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A hazy golden yellow orange colour with a just under two finger white head that had pretty good retention and left some nice lacing.
Aroma: Mango, melon, papaya, grapefruit rind and mandarin.
Taste: Sweet, quite juicy, melon, unripe cantaloupe, mango, orange juice and orange pith and rind.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: An easy to drink NEIPA. Less tropical and not quite as juicy as Yellow Lolly. The canned version seemed better than the when I tried it on draft. But of the two, my preference is Yellow Lolly.

Cloudwater Yellow Lolly

Appearance: A hazy golden yellow orange colour with a slightly less than two finger white head that had good retention and left lots of nice lacing.
Aroma: Tropical mango and pineapple with a hint of melon and citrus rind.
Taste: Juicy, tropical, mango, peach, apricot with an orange rind lightly bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: A juicy, easy to drink NEIPA with good strong tropical notes. I easily preferred this one over Red Lorry.

Cloudwater …And Getting Caught In The Rain

Brewery: Cloudwater Brew Co.
Country: England
ABV: 9%
Style: New England / Hazy Double IPA
Other Notes: Collaboration with Muted Horn. Aroma & Flavour – Sweet, juicy pineapple dominates, followed by smooth and creamy coconut. Body – Thick, yet silky and soft. Aftertaste – Coconut is prominent in a lingering sweet finish. Dry hop intensity – 20 g/L

Brewer Description: (from can) This fun twist on a Double IPA, brewed with Berlin’s Muted Horn, is infused with pineapple and coconut, and made for times when you fancy something a bit different. But although you may enjoy a bout of escapism, don’t forget the classic styles when choosing a long-term partner. They’re probably more exciting than you thought!

Intro: A 440ml can, canned on 8th October 2018. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A nice hazy mango orange colour with a just over one finger white head that dissipated very quickly to nothing and left pretty much no lacing.
Aroma: Pina colada. Toasted coconut and pineapple.
Taste: Juicy, moderate sweetness, toasted creamy coconut, pineapple, pina colada, with hints of mango. There is also some bitterness on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium bodied with soft carbonation.
Overall: I think it does everything the can says it does, with a really nice aroma, but it was perhaps a bit too sweet for me. It’s also a bit debatable as to whether it’s a DIPA as it just seems more like a Fruit Beer.
