Firestone Walker Leo v. Ursus Adversus

Brewery: Firestone Walker Brewing Co.
Country: USA
ABV: 8.2%
Style: American Double IPA
Other Notes: Unfiltered Double India Pale Ale. 55 IBUs. Malts – Pilsner Malt, Wheat Malt, Flaked Oats and Dextrose Sugar. Hops – (Kettle) Citra, Mandarina, Simcoe and Cascade, (Dry Hops) Ekuanot, Mandarina, Azacca and Citra

Brewer Description: (from website) Prodigiously hopped yet nimbly brewed with pilsner malts, Adversus ultimately achieves the improbable: a big, bold IPA made for summertime sipping. A hard-charging blend of Pacific Northwest hops leads the way, loading the nose with notes of stone fruit, pineapple, mango and earthy pine resin. Meanwhile, the use of traditional pilsner malts adds levity and dryness to the palate, allowing for a refreshing texture through the finish. The result is a double IPA that is high on hop aromas, balanced in bitterness and perfect for the long, warm days of summer.

Intro: A 330ml can with a best before date of 15th November 2017. Poured into a Mikkeller tasting glass.
Appearance: A hazy dark orange colour with a two finger white head that had good retention and left nice lacing.
Aroma: Candied pineapple, passion fruit, grapefruit, pine and caramel.
Taste: Sweet and only lightly bitter, caramel, citrus rind, honey, pine and surprisingly strong alcohol especially since it was well hidden with Citra and Mosaic.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Aromas were pretty nice but the surprisingly strong alcohol in the taste was not pleasant on the palate. Not as good as Citra and Mosaic.
