Brewer Description: (from bottle) Beer of spontaneous fermentation, the Old Gueuze Tilquin – Cuvée Paul was blended in honor of Paul Tilquin with 30% 1-year old lambics, 30% 2-year old lambics and 40% 3-year old lambics, all matured in oak barrels. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, this beer is refermented and matured in the bottle for 1 year.

Intro: A 750ml corked and caged bottle, with a neck label of 2021-2022, and a best before date of 2nd March 2032. Poured into a Tilquin stemmed glass.
Appearance: A hazy dark golden orange colour with a one finger white head that had good retention and left some nice lacing.
Aroma: Fruity, apricot, gooseberry, green apple, dried lemon peel, funky, hay, wood.
Taste: Sour, tart, apricot, green apple, lime, lemon peel, tangy, funky, dry hay, wood.
Mouthfeel: Spritzy, light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Drinks extremely easy and is very enjoyable with great aromas and flavours. My favourite of the initial three Tilquin Family Tree Project beers.

Intro: A 750ml corked and caged bottle, with a neck label of 2021-2022, and a best before date of 15th February 2032. Poured into a Tilquin stemmed glass.
Appearance: A hazy golden orange colour, with a half finger white head that had good retention and eventually settled to a ring around the glass, while leaving nice lacing.
Aroma: Funky, dry hay, wet wood, green apple, citrus zest, and leather notes.
Taste: Tart, fruity, plum, green apple, grapefruit zest, wood, and funk.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Balanced and enjoyable aroma and flavours. The first of the Tilquin Family Tree Project for me, and can’t wait to try the others.

Oud Beersel Oude Geuze Vieille Barrel Selection Whisky Edition Port Wood

Intro: A 750ml corked and caged bottle with a best before date of 15th September 2042. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen gueuze glass.
Appearance: A lightly hazy golden colour, with a one and a half finger fluffy white head that had good retention, and left some nice lacing.
Aroma: Sweet and tart, melon, lemon zest, vanilla, honey, oak, light funk.
Taste: Subtle sweet beginning, berry gummy candy, vanilla, yoghurt, honey, melon, lightly sour, tart, lemon zest, wood, light funk.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium bodied, with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Wow, loved this. Quite possibly one of my favourite gueuze’s out there. Easy to drink, with great aroma and flavours.

Oud Beersel Oude Geuze Vieille Barrel Selection Demi-Muids

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Demi-Muids are wooden barrels up to 650 litres with thick staves. The Demi-Muids at Oud Beersel, which we purchased in 2013, had previously held Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Bordeaux red wines for 9 years. Since making their way to Oud Beersel, these Demi-Muids have been exclusively used to age Lambic.

Intro: A 375ml corked and caged bottle with a best before date of 10th November 2041. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen gueuze glass.
Appearance: A lightly hazy golden orange colour, with a one finger white head that had pretty good retention, while leaving some nice curtain like lacing.
Aroma: Grapefruit, orange peel, lemon juice, green apple, cucumber, hay, wood, funk. At times it seemed like there was stone fruit and leather.
Taste: Crisp green apple, lemon, oak, funk, with notes of melon and leather.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate prickly carbonation.
Overall: A very enjoyable gueuze that drank easy with great aroma and flavours.

Boon HORAL’s Oude Geuze Mega Blend 2015

Brewer Description: (from bottle in Dutch) Voor deze botteling van de Oude Geuze Megablend hebben 9 verschillende brouwerijen en stekerijen samen lambiek gemengd. Deze Megablend werd speciaal voor de tiende editie van ‘Toer de Geuze’ gemaakt en zal op de dag van de Toer de Geuze 2015 meer dan 6 maanden op fles gerijpt hebben. Het mengsel bevat Lambiek die bij het vullen van de flessen 1, 2 en 3 jaar oud was.

(translated to English) For this bottling of the Oude Geuze Megablend, 9 different breweries and blenders mixed lambic together. This Megablend was specially made for the tenth edition of ‘Toer de Geuze’ and will have matured in the bottle for more than 6 months on the day of the Toer de Geuze 2015. The mixture contains Lambic that was 1, 2 and 3 years old when the bottles were filled.

Appearance: A clear golden orange colour with a two finger white head that had decent retention, eventually settling to a thin cap, while leaving some lacing.
Aroma: Crisp green apple, apple peel, lemon zest, oak, with light funky notes.
Taste: Lightly sour, green apple, apple peel, lemon zest, oak, funk.
Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation.
Overall: Up there with 2017 as one of my favourites HORAL Mega Blend vintages with good balance and refreshing aroma and flavours.
