Gweilo x Magic Rock Solitaire NEIIPA

Brewery: Gweilo Brewery x Magic Rock Brewing
Country: Hong Kong
ABV: 8.5%
Style: New England / Hazy Double IPA
Other Notes: 35 IBUs. Collaboration

Brewer Description: (from can) Brewed with our friends at Magic Rock, Solitaire is a seriously juicy Double NEIPA. No expense has been spared on this bad boy with a huge dry hop of Galaxy, Aloha, Citra Cryo, El Dorado and Denali. These are carried by the base of pale malt, wheat and oats to create a super rich, tropical hop bomb. Gently roll the can before opening and drink it fresh to ensure maximum juiciness.

Intro: A 330ml can with a best before date of 30th November 2019. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A hazy darkish orange colour with an almost two finger white head that had decent retention while leaving behind some lacing.
Aroma: Strong tropical aromas. Mango, peach, and citrus zestiness.
Taste: Tropical stone fruit, ripe mango, peach, citrus zest and rind, nice light bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation.
Overall: Very nice tropical juiciness with good light bitterness to balance and good body. It’s got pretty much everything I asked for when I reviewed the Nebulous DDH NEIPA. Carbonation was perhaps slightly too high, but not to take anything away from it, this was good and very enjoyable to drink.

Cloudwater …And Getting Caught In The Rain

Brewery: Cloudwater Brew Co.
Country: England
ABV: 9%
Style: New England / Hazy Double IPA
Other Notes: Collaboration with Muted Horn. Aroma & Flavour – Sweet, juicy pineapple dominates, followed by smooth and creamy coconut. Body – Thick, yet silky and soft. Aftertaste – Coconut is prominent in a lingering sweet finish. Dry hop intensity – 20 g/L

Brewer Description: (from can) This fun twist on a Double IPA, brewed with Berlin’s Muted Horn, is infused with pineapple and coconut, and made for times when you fancy something a bit different. But although you may enjoy a bout of escapism, don’t forget the classic styles when choosing a long-term partner. They’re probably more exciting than you thought!

Intro: A 440ml can, canned on 8th October 2018. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A nice hazy mango orange colour with a just over one finger white head that dissipated very quickly to nothing and left pretty much no lacing.
Aroma: Pina colada. Toasted coconut and pineapple.
Taste: Juicy, moderate sweetness, toasted creamy coconut, pineapple, pina colada, with hints of mango. There is also some bitterness on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium bodied with soft carbonation.
Overall: I think it does everything the can says it does, with a really nice aroma, but it was perhaps a bit too sweet for me. It’s also a bit debatable as to whether it’s a DIPA as it just seems more like a Fruit Beer.

Verdant Pulp!

Brewery: Verdant Brewing Co.
Country: England
ABV: 8%
Style: New England / Hazy Double IPA
Other Notes: Malts – Extra Pale Ale, Best Ale, Caragold, Wheat and Dextrose. Hops – Citra, Galaxy, Ekuanot and Columbus

Brewer Description: (from can) This Double IPA is bigger in every way but still retains a dry finish that hides its strength. Massive fruit aromas and flavours combined with hazy golden looks and chewy body really do make this beer a stone fruit pulp fest!

Intro: A 440ml can, canned on 1st November 2018, and poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A cloudy hazy orange colour with a two finger white head that had decent retention, while leaving some lacing.
Aroma: Fruity, tropical, mango, peach with light citrus rind and orange peel.
Taste: Mango, apricot, melon, orange peel and zest, grass, dank with a touch of booze on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Great aroma, and I think taste started off well enough, but the finish which was a bit grassy with a touch of booze just seemed to lose all the nice fruitiness that was there at the beginning.
