Intro: A 750ml corked and caged bottle, with a best before date of 10th March 2032. Poured into a Tilquin stemmed glass.
Appearance: A lightly hazy golden orange colour with a two finger white head that had pretty good retention, while leaving some nice lacing.
Aroma: Tart, bright, lime, citrus zest, Szechuan pepper, peppermint, coriander, with floral notes.
Taste: Sweet and sour, tart, lime, candied grapefruit zest, Szechuan pepper, mint, coriander, woody, with a very light very nice backend tingly spiciness.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, tingly spice, with moderate to high spritzy carbonation.
Overall: I love Szechuan pepper and I didn’t know what to expect, but I really wanted this to work, and it didn’t disappoint. The peppercorn gives off this enjoyable tingly spice and interesting minty notes, all the while maintaining good balanced aroma and flavours. This just works so well for me.

Intro: A 750ml corked and caged bottle, with a best before date of 24th September 2030. Poured into a Tilquin stemmed glass.
Appearance: A lightly hazy golden orange colour with an almost two finger white head that had pretty good retention and left some nice lacing.
Aroma: Smoky and leather dominate, almost peaty, a touch dusty, funky, with notes of pine, apple and lemon zest.
Taste: Sour, tart, lemon, pine needles, tea, sweet notes, honey, herbal, smoke, peat, leather, funk and wood.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with high spritzy carbonation.
Overall: First impressions was that it was a strange combination, unique for sure. However, it definitely grew on me over time, and the aroma and flavours became interesting and thought provoking.

Intro: A 750ml corked and caged bottle, with a best before date of 3rd March 2032. Poured into a Tilquin stemmed glass.
Appearance: A hazy golden dark orange colour, with a two finger white head that had excellent retention and eventually settled to a fluffy cap, while leaving nice lacing.
Aroma: Funky, dusty, musty, rotting wood, citrus peel, orange, orange blossom, green apple, with a green leafy finish.
Taste: Light to moderate sourness, tart, lemon citrusy, orange tangy, green apple, light funky notes and a touch floral.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate to high spritzy carbonation.
Overall: I’m so glad Oud Beersel have been experimenting with unique adjuncts. This one with orange blossom is one of those that I would never have thought about, and while perhaps not one of my favourites, it was still easy drinking and enjoyable.

Intro: A 750ml corked and caged bottle with a best before date of 15th September 2042. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen gueuze glass.
Appearance: A lightly hazy golden colour, with a one and a half finger fluffy white head that had good retention, and left some nice lacing.
Aroma: Sweet and tart, melon, lemon zest, vanilla, honey, oak, light funk.
Taste: Subtle sweet beginning, berry gummy candy, vanilla, yoghurt, honey, melon, lightly sour, tart, lemon zest, wood, light funk.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium bodied, with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Wow, loved this. Quite possibly one of my favourite gueuze’s out there. Easy to drink, with great aroma and flavours.

Oud Beersel Oude Geuze Vieille Barrel Selection Demi-Muids

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Demi-Muids are wooden barrels up to 650 litres with thick staves. The Demi-Muids at Oud Beersel, which we purchased in 2013, had previously held Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Bordeaux red wines for 9 years. Since making their way to Oud Beersel, these Demi-Muids have been exclusively used to age Lambic.

Intro: A 375ml corked and caged bottle with a best before date of 10th November 2041. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen gueuze glass.
Appearance: A lightly hazy golden orange colour, with a one finger white head that had pretty good retention, while leaving some nice curtain like lacing.
Aroma: Grapefruit, orange peel, lemon juice, green apple, cucumber, hay, wood, funk. At times it seemed like there was stone fruit and leather.
Taste: Crisp green apple, lemon, oak, funk, with notes of melon and leather.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate prickly carbonation.
Overall: A very enjoyable gueuze that drank easy with great aroma and flavours.
