Intro: A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 8th January 2016 and poured into a pint glass. Appearance: It poured a slightly hazy amber copper colour with a two finger slightly off white coloured head that slowly dissipated into a thin foamy layer with stringy lacing. Aroma: Starts with citrus orange and grapefruit followed by a light hit of tropical pineapple and finishes with a somewhat caramelly note. Taste: Strong caramel malts at the beginning but finishes bitter. The aftertaste bitterness lasts long and is largely citrus grapefruit with hints of pine and lychee. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Overall: This was quite nice but personally due to the strong hop bitterness, it feels more like an IPA than an APA. Having said that, Southern Frontier is still nice to drink and goes down easy.

Intro: A 330ml bottle with a best before end date of 4th June 2016 and poured into a D’Achouffe tulip glass. Appearance: It poured a slightly hazy copper colour with a huge three finger head. Most of it dissipated within a minute but it left some thick lacing on the glass. Aroma: Some slight funk at first followed by some fruity banana and apples, caramel and honey. There are also some bread, cracker malt aromas. Taste: Flavour is sweet banana and honey first, but there’s definitely candied sugar, bubblegum and caramel mixed in. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, medium to high carbonation, sticky. Overall: This was not bad but perhaps slightly too sweet for me. Leffe is also a tad too sweet for me, but I still may prefer Leffe slightly more.

Intro: A 12 fl oz bottle with a packaged date of 17th March 2015 and poured into a pint glass. Appearance: The beer poured an extremely clear copper colour with a two finger slightly off-white head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving some stringy lacing. Aroma: Mainly a piney smell along with some citrus lemon and grapefruit. Some bready malts also come through. Taste: Pine hop taste along with some bread, biscuit and caramel malt. There’s also a hint of orange and some bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall: I’d drink this pale ale again, but I do prefer my pale ales with a slightly less pine, and more tropical fruit flavours instead.

Intro: A 22 oz. bomber with no indication of any bottled on or best before date on the bottle. Poured into a pint glass. Appearance: Pours a hazy darkish orange colour with a thin white head that does stick around for a while. Aroma: Smells a little weak, but of pine, citrus hops and grapefruit along with some caramel at the end as well. Taste: A strong malt background of bread and caramel at first followed by citrus grapefruit and orange turning tropical fruit mango. Finish is a lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, with medium carbonation and slightly sticky. Overall: This was decent from 3 Floyds. It starts sweet and finishes bitter but overall I still easily prefer Zombie Dust.
Brewery: Mikkeller ApS Country: Denmark ABV: 4.6% Style: American Pale Ale Other Notes: Brewed and bottled by Mikkeller at De Proef Brouwerij
Brewer Description: Folk Pale Ale (or basically not much description on bottle or their website!)
My rating: 4 My beeradvocate.com rating: 4.31 My ratebeer.com rating: 4.2
Intro: A 330ml bottle dated best before 8th April 2016 and poured into a Duvel tulip glass. Appearance: The beer poured a hazy golden orange colour with between a two and three finger white head that dissipated slowly leaving streaky and blobby lacing behind. Aroma: Aromas start with very nice tropical fruits mainly pineapple and mango followed by lemon and pine ending with strong grapefruit. Taste: Grapefruit bitterness immediately comes to mind followed by a hint of lemon and hoppy pine and grass. There was a light malty background throughout. Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation and refreshing. Overall: This was a great and solid pale ale from Mikkeller. If it wasn’t so expensive in Hong Kong (I’m paying around USD 5 per bottle) I would drink this even more regularly than I do right now.
