Lagunitas Aunt Sally

Brewery: Lagunitas Brewing Company
Country: USA
ABV: 5.7%
Style: American Wild Ale
Other Notes: 33 IBUs

Brewer Description: (from website) A unique dry-hopped sweet tart sour mash ale. We soured the wort on the Hot Side with Lactobacillus for a few days and then brewed up this smooth and hoppy sour. It tastes like a big bowl of fruity candy or some chewable flavored vitamins, but what’s the difference? It’s sweet, tart, and sassy, just like the tasty cherry pie that your favorite aunt makes. For all the Aunt Sally’s out there, you know who you are…

My rating: 4
My beeradvocate.com rating: 4.44
My ratebeer.com rating: 4.3

Intro: A 250ml pour on tap at BeerTemple into a Lagunitas mason jar glass.
Appearance: It was a clear golden colour with a less than half finger white head that had pretty good retention and good lacing.
Aroma: Sour grape followed by lots of tropical mango, peach and apricot with hints of honey and funk.
Taste: Sour, tart, mango, apricot, peach with a hint of citrus orange on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: It was very refreshing and easy to drink. Easily a drink all day and anytime type of beer.

Intro: A 200ml pour on draft of the 2015 version at Mikkeller Bangkok into a mini stemmed Mikkeller tasting glass.
Appearance: It was pretty much pitch black with a half finger beige head that dissipated fairly quickly, leaving sparse lacing.
Aroma: Chocolate, vanilla, roast and hints of dark fruit.
Taste: Dark fruit, plum, prune, chocolate, roast, vanilla and caramel.

Modern Times Booming Rollers

Brewery: Modern Times Beer
Country: USA
ABV: 6.8%
Style: American IPA
Other Notes: 75 IBUs. Malts – Two Row, Carapils, Crystal 10 and Wheat. Hops – Citra, Motueka and Centennial.

Brewer Description: (from website) Booming Rollers is a showcase for the juicy awesomeness of Citra hops. These new wave American hops impart a remarkable aroma and flavor, which we’ve amplified with the dark stone fruit character of New Zealand-grown Motueka hops. Some Centennial is thrown in to balance the tropical fruit party, and the malt body is just assertive enough to support Booming Rollers’ snappy bitterness. It’s a party in your mouth and all the beautiful people are invited.

Intro: A 200ml pour on draft at Mikkeller Bangkok into a mini stemmed Mikkeller tasting glass.
Appearance: It was a clear golden copper colour with a one finger white head and good lacing.
Aroma: More subtle than I hoped for, but there is citrus fruit, grapefruit and pine.
Taste: Similar to the aroma, it was bitter with grapefruit, citrusy lemon and pine along with some biscuit malt.
Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: This was just ok for me. I tried Blam! Blam! right before Booming Rollers and for me, Blam! Blam! was easily my preferred choice.
