Trillium Fated Farmer – Cranberry

Brewery: Trillium Brewing Company
Country: USA
ABV: 6.8%
Style: American Wild Ale
Other Notes: Barrel fermented wild ale. Hops – Aged Hops. Malts – Valley Pilsner and Valley Wheat. Adjunct – Cranberry

Brewer Description: (from website) Our Fated Farmer Series is a landmark step toward realizing our foundational vision for Trillium: Build a place that intuitively celebrates the intersection of New England farming, agriculture, brewing, and integrated community experience. The grist of each of the dynamic Fated Farmer wild ales is set on the structure of Valley Malt and is barrel fermented in 500L puncheons with our Native New England Wild Culture and aged for 5-7 months, before re-fermenting on freshly harvested fruit.

Fresh, locally-sourced Cape Cod cranberries provide a brilliant ruby hue to the latest interpretation of Fated Farmer. Bright red fruit aromas from cranberry to raspberry spring from the glass, while a bouquet of floral tones offers a depth of flavor to each sip. Subtly sweet, with an energizing acidity and underlying native yeast character, Cranberry Fated Farmer finishes nimble and refreshing.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, prickly acidic, with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Enjoyable aroma and flavours, although the acidity felt a little bit on the harsh side at times.

Odd Breed Fresh Off the Farm with Peaches

Brewery: Odd Breed Wild Ales
Country: USA
ABV: 6.2%
Style: Wild Ale
Other Notes: Wild Ale with Fresh Peaches. 2020 Harvest. Batch 2

Brewer Description: (from bottle) This year’s version of Fresh Off the Farm with Peaches was blended from two turbid mashed wild ales aged 10 months and a Saison barrel aged 14 months. We transferred the blend onto nearly 800 pounds of fresh UF Suns peaches that we picked up fresh off the farm in Fort Pierce, Florida. The result is a beer that is extremely juicy and fruity. Our mixed culture provides a funky and dry finish with moderate acidity.

Intro: A 1 pint can with no canned on or best before date. Poured into a Holy Mountain tulip glass.
Appearance: A not so appetising murky brownish orange colour, with a half finger tanned head that dissipated fairly quickly and left fruit like sediment and only sparse to no lacing.
Aroma: Fruity, yuzu, strawberry, vanilla, yoghurt, ice cream smoothie.
Taste: Sour, sweet, fruity, yuzu, strawberry, Sprite, sweetened milk, vanilla.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Purely on its appearance, it did not look appetising at all. Luckily, it’s aroma and flavours were many times better and enjoyable with lots of fruit, especially yuzu.

Intro: A 1 pint can, canned on 13th October 2020, ‘dazed & confused’. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.
Appearance: A hazy beetroot purple colour with a one finger pinkish purple head that had decent retention, but left only sparse lacing.
Aroma: Sweet, candied, raspberry, mixed berries.
Taste: Slightly tart, sweet, jammy, candied, raspberry, mixed berries.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium bodied with moderate to soft carbonation.
Overall: Aroma and flavours were nice with lots of raspberry, but it was just a bit too sweet for me. Would have preferred more sour and tartness to balance out the sweetness.
