Intro: A 330ml bottle with best before date of 14th October 2017 and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Appearance: It poured a clear copper colour with a big three finger off white head that had good retention and lots of nice sticky lacing. Aroma: Extremely tropical with a lot of fruit like mango, peach, apricot, pineapple with hints of grapefruit and pine. Coffee is there, but its far and away in the background. Taste: The coffee comes out in the taste and the result is like that of light fruity and floral hand drip coffee with light caramel and a nice grapefruit and pine bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Overall: Very interesting. My first coffee IPA and it was tasty. Will be on the look out for the other variations.

Intro: A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 7th February 2016, poured into a Duvel tulip glass. Appearance: It poured a rather unappealing murky light mud brown colour. Looks like a cloudy thick apple juice. There was a one finger frothy and thick off white head that settles down to a thin but puffy layer with some thick sticky lacing. Aroma: Somewhat sour funkiness with a fruity element leaning towards apple juice and cider. There is also an acidic vinegary touch. Taste: Tart and sour at the beginning but there is no distinct lasting flavour but some bitterness. Its like as soon you get the sourness, something just cancels out all taste and its weird. Hint of vinegar, blueberry and apple, but at the same time, not really. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with mid to high carbonation. Overall: Sour beers are good, but this was just a mess. The aromas were fine, but its taste and especially its appearance left something to be desired. I believe this was brewed once only, and that’s probably a good thing. Definitely not going for this again.

Brewer Description: (from Mikkeller blog) A tribute to the metal band Nuclear Assault, this Double IPA is bright and crisp with a combination of citrus, peach and fresh cut grass on the nose. The flavors combine tons of lemon and grapefruit peel from the hybrid hops and is rounded out by sweet caramel notes.

Intro: A 200ml pour on draft at Mikkeller Bangkok into a mini stemmed wine glass. Appearance: A slightly hazy golden orange colour with a two finger white head with good retention that leaves fluffy sticky lacing. Aroma: Pineapple, grapefruit and piney with hints of breadiness. Taste: Citrusy and bitter with citrus peel, grapefruit and a hint of lemon and grass. Biscuit like towards the end with lasting bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Overall: A great DIPA with nice bitterness. Another that I would pick up bottles of if I could.

Intro: A 200ml pour on draft at Mikkeller Bangkok into a mini stemmed wine glass. Appearance: A deep dark-ish purple colour with a reddish hue and a thin half centimetre purplish pink head with minimal lacing. Aroma: Light funk with leathery brett. Dark fruit, blackcurrant, sour berry, grape and vinegary tartness. Taste: Tart, sour berries, blackcurrant and grape with barnyard funk. Hints of oak and sweetness. Mouthfeel: Dry, light to medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Overall: A solid fruit lambic that I would revisit again if I can find a bottle version. Very easy to drink.
Brewery: Mikkeller ApS Country: Denmark ABV: 7.5% Style: American Black IPA Other Notes: Brewed and bottled by Mikkeller at Lervig Aktiebryggeri (Norway).
Brewer Description: (from bottle) Black India Pale Ale brewed with coffee.

Intro: A 330ml bottle with surprisingly for Mikkeller, no best before date either on the bottle or cap. Poured into an oversized wine glass. Appearance: The beer poured opaque black with a slightly less than two finger dark mocha brown head that dissipates quickly leaving spotty lacing. Aroma: Mainly roast coffee bean and chocolate, hints of almond and brown sugar with a pine hop background. Taste: Strong coffee bean mixed with pine hop and grapefruit bitterness. A hint of brown sugar sweetness lends a hand to a very nice lasting bittersweet finish. Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation and slight creaminess. Overall: I enjoyed this a lot. It is very well balanced and extremely tasty. I see debate on whether this is a black IPA or just a hoppy stout, but for me, mostly due to its lightness, it’s a black IPA.
