Omnipollo Karpologi

Brewery: Omnipollo
Country: Sweden
ABV: 3.5%
Style: Sour Ale

Brewer Description: (from can) Pineapple peach passion candy sour.

My rating: 3
My beeradvocate.com rating: 3.5
My ratebeer.com rating: 3.3

Intro: A 330ml can, with a best before date of 9th May 2020. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.
Appearance: A murky dirty orange colour with a two finger off white head that dissipated fairly quickly while leaving some lacing.
Aroma: Sweet-ish canned pineapple, pear, peach and passionfruit.
Taste: Sweet and sour although mainly intense sweetness followed by a light tart sourness. Lots of fruit, pear, canned pineapple, canned peach, sugar, with notes of passionfruit and sharp lemon juice.
Mouthfeel: Sharp, light bodied with moderate to soft carbonation.
Overall: Needed more tart and sourness to balance the oversweetness in my opinion, but it is pretty much what it’s described as.

Overall: A nice balanced sipper. I’m not a huge fan of rum, but it adds a nice touch here.

Intro: A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 20th December 2019. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A murky light beetroot reddish purple colour with an almost two finger pinkish head that had pretty good retention while leaving some lacing.
Aroma: Crushed raspberry juice, lime, tequila, mint, herbal.
Taste: Sour, tart, raspberry, lime, mint.
Mouthfeel: Dry, medium bodied with soft to moderate carbonation.
Overall: The idea is right, and based on my taste descriptors, everything sounds like it should work. But for some reason, it just didn’t quite pull together as well as it could have.

My ratebeer.com rating: 4

Intro: A 330ml bottle, bottled on 15th December 2017, and with a best before date of 15th December 2022. Poured into a snifter glass.
Appearance: Black in colour with a thin brown head that disappeared almost immediately but left some spotty lacing.
Aroma: Light roast, white chocolate, coffee, vanilla, along with hints of maple and herbal notes on the finish.
Taste: Roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, ash, with hints of maple and brown sugar.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.
Overall: Nice Imperial Stout that hides the booze well. Not too sweet either despite the maple, but I think it could be the smoke/ash flavours that balance this out.

Intro: A 330ml bottle, bottled on 10th July 2018, and with a best before date of 10th July 2023. Poured into a snifter glass.
Appearance: Dark dark brown to black in colour with a half finger mocha brown head that dissipated fairly quickly but left some tiny spotty lacing.
Aroma: Chocolate, fudge, nuttiness (maybe pecan), smoky, tar, slight peat even, and caramel.
Taste: Moderate sweetness, chocolate, roasted malts, smoky, smoked ham, charred wood. Finish was a little weird chemical / plastic-y.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.
Overall: Chocolate and roastiness was nice, the smokiness was ok, but somehow the mix brought out a chemical / plastic-y finish, which was not the end of the world, but enough to make me think that perhaps once is enough.
