Brewer Description: (from bottle) This special edition of Broken Dream is brewed with our very own bourbon barrel-aged coffee. We source the finest green beans, age them in wet barrels for at least 12 months before roasting in small batches when required.

Intro: A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 4th January 2018. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: It poured black in colour with a less than one finger brown head that dissipated quickly and left only sparse to no lacing.
Aroma: Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and brown sugar.
Taste: Roasty malt and milk coffee with only hints of chocolate, vanilla and oak.
Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: This was ok, but given the name, even if its just the coffee beans aged in bourbon barrels, I was expecting some bourbon flavours, but unfortunately, I got nothing at all.

Weird Beard Double Perle

Other Notes: A coffee milk stout. Brewed in partnership with Has Bean Coffee with Nicaragua Finca Limoncillo Pacamara Natural ‘Funky’ beans

Brewer Description: (from bottle) When it came time to brew our 100th brew at Weird Beard we knew we had to do something special to celebrate. We decided there was no need to venture too far from our roots, and would brew a bigger version of a classic. Black Perle was an obvious choice. Back in the days when Gregg Irwin & I were just two home brewers giving our prototypes at bars and festivals, it was a firm favourite. A firkin of Black Perle was the first beer we ever sold from the brewery, and was the first beer I ever bought in a bar that I had made. Double Perle is essentially the same recipe as Black Perle with a few small tweaks and a lot less water. This concentrates all the flavours we love, but makes it a bigger, more luxurious experience. This beer proved so popular, we have decided to add this to our occasional brews, so expect to see this around all year round, but in limited quantities. So here it is, our thank you to you for keeping our brewing aspirations alive.

Intro: A 330ml bottle, batch no. 0360, bottled on September 2016, with a best before date of September 2020. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: Black in colour with a one finger brown head that dissipated over the course of about a minute while leaving some nice curtain lacing.
Aroma: Coffee bean, coffee, light roast, chocolate, chocolate milk with hints of oak.
Taste: Dark chocolate, cocoa and coffee. Light sweetness to begin, while there was a hint of booze and a lengthy but moderately bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Full to medium bodied with light carbonation.
Overall: Nice coffee and chocolate flavours and bittersweet finish. Would have preferred if the booze could have been hidden in a Milk Stout though, and this was only 8.6% ABV.

Other Notes: 75 IBUs. Malts – Best Pale, Caragold, Caramalt, Carafa II and Carafa III. Hops – Colombus, Chinook and Citra

Brewer Description: (from website) So it’s a contradiction in terms. A Black India Pale Ale?! The concept we came up with revolved around the old chewy sweets ‘Black Jacks & Fruit Salads’. We wanted to take a big, fat IPA and lace it with under- tones of slight roast and aniseed and blend with the huge tropical aromas of Pacific West coast hops. We gained the hint of roast by using Carafa malts from Germany. They give us the dark colour and a touch of roast but minimal bitterness, thus letting the hops fly and fly!

Intro: A 330ml can with a best before date of 1st September 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: It was a dark dark brown colour with a one and a half finger tanned head that had good retention and left some nice spotty lacing.
Aroma: Citrus peels with some nice roasty malts and cocoa.
Taste: It’s pretty much what you would expect from the aromas with nice citrus flavours, balanced with roasty malts and hints of chocolate and coffee. There is also a lingering grapefruit finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: A good Black IPA that is very easy to drink. It’s 7.4% ABV but feels very sessionable. Quite a dangerous combination.

Other Notes: Spring-Summer 2017. Specialising in modern, seasonal beer. Malts – Golden Promise, Wheat, Dextrin Malt and Carapils. Yeast – WLP001. Hops – Simcoe, Vic Secret, Chinook and Pilgrim Alpha CO2 Extract

Brewer Description: (from can) Our second mid strength Pale, double dry hopped with Simcoe, Vic Secret and Chinook. We increased the Carapils and Dextrin malt for a richer mouthfeel and fermented with WLP001 for a neutral yeast profile.

Intro: A 440ml can, canned on 28th April 2017 and with a best before date of end of August 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A cloudy golden orange colour with a one finger white head that had decent retention and left some lacing.
Aroma: Mango and passionfruit with hints of peach, orange and grapefruit.
Taste: Tastes similar to the aroma with mango, peach, apricot, mandarin and orange with a nice finish of bitter zesty citrus rind.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: A nice juicy Pale Ale that’s great to drink.

Beavertown Bloody ‘Ell

Other Notes: Blood Orange IPA. 55 IBUs. Malts – Extra Pale. Hops – Magnum, Citra, Simcoe and Amarillo

Brewer Description: (from website) A smack of citrus with hints of warm blood orange aromas brought on by refined malt bill and loads of juicy hops. All hail Bloody ‘Ell.

Intro: A 330ml can with a best before date of 17th July 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A lightly hazy golden yellow orange colour with a two finger white head that had pretty good retention and left nice lacing.
Aroma: Mandarin and orange rind with hints of pine and grapefruit.
Taste: Sweetish and zesty orange and mandarin with a hint of honeydew and pine. Finish is lightly lasting bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Lightly crisp, medium to light bodied with moderate to light carbonation.
Overall: Nicely refreshing for a hot summer day and surprised that it’s 7.2% ABV as it definitely doesn’t feel that high. For me, I would have preferred slightly more carbonation and a stronger bitterness though.
