To Øl First Frontier IPA

Brewery: To Øl
Country: Denmark
ABV: 7.1%
Style: American IPA
Other Notes: Hops – Warrior, Simcoe, Centennial. Brewed at De Proef Brouwerij, Belgium.

Brewer Description: (from website) First Frontier” We all got pieces of crazy in us, some bigger pieces than other” The thing about First Frontier is the hops. Easy… This is an IPA “the American way”, no sticky-sweet malt profile, just the real deal potent and aromatic hops. The result is a refreshingly dry, fresh and bitter IPA, heavily dryhopped with the three American hop varieties warrior, simcoe and centennial, dealing a punch of citrus, peach and grapefruit from the deepest of our hearts directly to ya face. Just added a bit of caramel malt; merely to harness and balance the alcohol.

Intro: A 330ml bottle dated best before 1st October 2016 and poured into an IPA glass.
Appearance: The beer poured a slightly hazy golden orange with a huge cream head that dissipated slowly leaving lots of stringy lacing.
Aroma: Piney hops with some pineapple and citrus grapefruit. Light caramel malts to finish.
Taste: Taste follows the nose with citrus grapefruit and caramel dominating followed by a piney hop finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with light to medium carbonation.
Overall: This IPA is worth a try. While not at the top of its style, it is still very refreshing on a hot summer day.

8 Wired Hopwired IPA

Brewery: 8 Wired Brewing Co.
Country: New Zealand
ABV: 7.3%
Style: IPA
Other Notes: Brewed at Renaissance Brewing for 8 Wired Brewing Co.

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Hopwired was one of the first, true new world IPAs made exclusively with unique NZ hops. In its short life time it has become a modern classic among Kiwi craft beers. Since then, many other IPAs have emerged but we dare say this is still somewhat the benchmark.
Although there is plenty of malt sweetness, this beer is all about the hops. Punchy, aggressive, New Zealand hops that all add up to create wonderful, tropical flavours and aromas. Wine people would talk about waves of passionfruit, limes, tangelos & gooseberries. Luckily we don’t have to go to such detail, so you can just enjoy it without further complication.
Cheers – Soren Eriksen – Brewer

Taste: Taste was malt caramel sweetness followed by tropical fruit flavours especially mango, pineapple and orange finishing with a nice bitter pine and grapefruit.

Overall: A very nice balanced IPA. The sweet malts and tropical fruit flavours make it a must buy for me.

Mountain Goat In-Breed The Delmont

Featured image was taken from http://www.brewsnews.com.au.

Brewery: Mountain Goat Beer Pty. Ltd.
Country: Australia
ABV: 6.8%
Style: IPA
Other Notes: In-Breed – This is the brewing expression of one of our goats, who we let off the leash in the brewery. He created this exclusive brew for you drinking pleasure.

Brewer Description: (from bottle) If Tom were a beer he wouldn’t be a mid-strength Australian lager, he wouldn’t be a pale ale or even a session IPA. He’d be a full-blown IPA. Tommy’s magnetically drawn to hops. So when it came his turn to brew an In-Breed it had to be a US style, West Coast IPA.

My beeradvocate.com rating: 4.25
My ratebeer.com rating: 4.2

Intro: This was a 640ml bottle dated best before 3 May 2015 and poured into a Hoegaarden pint glass.
Appearance: The beer poured a clear copper amber colour with a one finger white head with good retention.
Aroma: The aroma is easily pineapple, grapefruit and pine with light caramel malts in the background.
Taste: Grapefruit is most prominent at the beginning, then pine followed by a caramel malt finish. It has a medium bitterness throughout that is nice.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
Overall: A nice IPA overall. The bitterness and light caramel malt in the background is well balanced and enjoyable to drink. I would buy this again.

Brewfist Spaceman

Brewery: Brewfist
Country: Italy
ABV: 7%
Style: IPA
Other Notes: IBU 70

Brewer Description: (from Brewfist website) Orange colour West Coast style IPA. Dry and very hoppy. Grapefruit and peach nose with fruity and citrus aroma. Very American beer…

My rating: 2
My beeradvocate.com rating: 3.12
My ratebeer.com rating: 2.9

Intro: Best before 30 May 2015 as stated on the back of the bottle. Poured from a 330ml bottle into a La Chouffe tulip glass.
Appearance: The beer poured a nice copper orange with some haze caused by some small particles suspended. One finger white head.
Aroma: Citrus aromas hit first with some light pine and light caramel malt.
Taste: Bitter and malt with light grapefruit and some other citrus. Interestingly leaves a mango aftertaste. However the fruit flavours were not really strong and did not last long which was unfortunate.
Mouthfeel: Light body with medium/high carbonation.
Overall: The beer poured nice and smell kept me interested but I think the taste failed to live up to expectations from the initial pour. The taste just seemed to be missing something which was unfortunate as everything else seemed pretty good… except that taste is probably the most important… I probably wouldn’t buy this again.

Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA

Brewery: Deschutes Brewery
Country: USA
ABV: 6.4%
Style: American IPA
Other Notes: Citra, Mosaic and Nugget hops. 60 IBU

Brewer Description: (from bottle) This mouthwateringly delicious I.P.A. gets its flavor from a heavy helping of citra and mosaic hops. Don’t worry, no fruit was harmed in the making of this beer.

Intro: A friend brought this bottle to Hong Kong for me as its not available there yet. A 12oz bottle poured into a La Chouffe tulip. Best by 22 May 2015.
Appearance: Poured a deep amber orange colour with slightly less than one finger head. It’s darker than most IPAs but appears clear.
Aroma: It has a nice aroma but its not exactly leaping out. When it does appear though, its with nice tropical fruits and pine.
Taste: Mango, pineapple, more tropical fruits, pine, so good… with some grapefruit bitter ending.
Mouthfeel: Crisp, slightly sticky, medium body and medium carbonation. Feels great in my mouth.
Overall: A very nice IPA which I would definitely buy again if I could somehow get my hands on more.
