Métaphore x Lajka Mars 2021

Brewery: Métaphore x Pivovar Lajka
Country: Czech Republic
ABV: 5.5%
Style: Lager – Märzen / Oktoberfest

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Märzen beer with local organic spelt. Brewed in March and aged in a cellar till October in freshly emptied biodynamic Pinot Noir barrels from Burgundy. Brewed with organic local malt, hops and raw spelt. Homage to those early times, when beers were made in a season for the season and the notion of time had a different meaning. A collaboration with dear friend Jan K. of Pivovar Lajka with whom we share the mutual love for the classic and rustic beers. Here we present you with Mars. The resulting beer is the reflection of the love of both brewers for classic beers and their affinity for delicately rustic beers. Not quite Märzen, not quite Bière de Garde. This malty little rustic beer with a sense of time and place is ready for you to enjoy here and now.

Taste: Sweet, toffee apple, bread, honey, brown sugar, with a light bitterness to the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation.
Overall: The light bitterness helps, but on the whole, it was probably too sweet for me.

Intro: A 12 fl oz bottle packaged on 17th August 2015 and poured into a Duvel tulip glass.
Appearance: It poured a clear golden orange colour with a one and a half finger slightly off white coloured head that had pretty good retention.
Aroma: Toasty bread with honey and apple with a hint of caramel. Generally its the sweet aroma.
Taste: Leans on the sweet side and definitely malty and bready with some grain plus hints of caramel and toffee.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation.
Overall: This was decent and easy to drink but nothing exceptional, though it is worth a try. It’s a one time brew, but even if I could buy it again, I’m not sure I would.
