Intro: A 330ml bottle with no clear bottled on or best before date (my best guess would be 4+ years in the bottle). Poured into a snifter glass.
Appearance: Black in colour with pretty much no head and only some sparse spotty lacing.
Aroma: Roasty, dark malt, chocolate, coffee, oak, licorice, bourbon, toffee and maybe a hint of char.
Taste: Sweet, bourbon, licorice, toffee, roasted malts, chocolate, oak, coffee, molasses, some dark fruit, char, and a light bitterness on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, full bodied, with soft carbonation.
Overall: A good sipper from Mikkeller. Sweetness was on the borderline for me, but it got balanced by the roast and light bitterness on the finish.

North Coast Old Rasputin Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged

Brewery: North Coast Brewing Co.
Country: USA
ABV: 11.3%
Style: Russian Imperial Stout
Other Notes: XVIII release

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Barrel-aged Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout. Stout aged in rye whiskey barrels.

My rating: 4
My beeradvocate.com rating: 4.12
My ratebeer.com rating: 4.1

Intro: A corked and caged 500ml bottle, XVIII release. Poured into a snifter glass.
Appearance: Black in colour with a one finger dark tanned to brown head that had good retention and left lots of nice lacing.
Aroma: Light roast, chocolate, whiskey, oak and vanilla.
Taste: Rye whiskey forward providing sweetness, light roast, chocolate, coffee, oak and vanilla.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
Overall: Body was lighter than I’d prefer for what it is. I get the whiskey booze forwardness, but I don’t get much of the usual spiciness from rye whiskey (maybe I’ve held on to this bottle for too long?). But nevertheless, it is still an enjoyable sipper.
