Intro: A 500ml corked bottle, batch from 7th September 2017, poured into a Tilquin stemmed glass.
Appearance: A clear dark orange brown colour, with a thin head most likely from the pour, and sparse to no lacing.
Aroma: Very aromatic as soon as the cork was removed. Tart, fruity, red currants, fig, cherry, fruit vinegar, with finishing notes of chocolate and cocoa.
Taste: Light tartness, fruity, dark fruit, red berries, plum, fig, red currant, cherry, light notes of chocolate and cocoa, and a splash of spicy rye whiskey.
Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied, with no carbonation “this beer is still”.
Overall: Great aroma that just wanted to burst out. Some nice complexity and flavours that work together. This is clearly an Ale Apothecary type beer in my book.

Taste: Sweet, chocolate, roasty, coconut, vanilla, whiskey, oak, and a peppery spicy finish.

Overall: While the aroma and flavours were on the whole enjoyable, it was a touch too sweet for me, even as a sipper.

My ratebeer.com rating: 4

Intro: A 750ml bottle, vintage 2018, bottle 384 of 410. Poured into a snifter glass.
Appearance: A rusty brownish orange colour, with a thin beige head that dissipates quickly while leaving sparse spotty lacing.
Aroma: Caramel, toffee, bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark fruit, plum, prunes, with a splash of pine greenness.
Taste: Moderately sweet, toffee, caramel, dark fruit, prunes, plum, bourbon, vanilla, with a slight bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
Overall: An enjoyable sipper with good aroma and flavours. Body was thinner than expected though and I think a fuller body would have improved the experience.

North Coast Old Rasputin Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged

Brewery: North Coast Brewing Co.
Country: USA
ABV: 11.3%
Style: Russian Imperial Stout
Other Notes: XVIII release

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Barrel-aged Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout. Stout aged in rye whiskey barrels.

My rating: 4
My beeradvocate.com rating: 4.12
My ratebeer.com rating: 4.1

Intro: A corked and caged 500ml bottle, XVIII release. Poured into a snifter glass.
Appearance: Black in colour with a one finger dark tanned to brown head that had good retention and left lots of nice lacing.
Aroma: Light roast, chocolate, whiskey, oak and vanilla.
Taste: Rye whiskey forward providing sweetness, light roast, chocolate, coffee, oak and vanilla.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
Overall: Body was lighter than I’d prefer for what it is. I get the whiskey booze forwardness, but I don’t get much of the usual spiciness from rye whiskey (maybe I’ve held on to this bottle for too long?). But nevertheless, it is still an enjoyable sipper.
