Brewer Description: (from can release description) An ode to the button mashing madness of classic arcade games, 100 Hand Slap is a flurry of a New England Style IPA packed with soft, tropical, Juicyfruit citrus character. A milky yellow on the SRM scale and light mouthfeel, this “fluffy” Galaxy and Citra-hopped beer drinks too easily for its steamroller 8.5% ABV. 100 Hand Slap was brewed in collaboration with Virginia’s heralded brewpub The Answer, and is the first release in our canned “Covalent Bond” collaboration series!

Intro: On tap at Bottle Logic Brewing, Anaheim. A 14 oz pour into a Bottle Logic goblet glass.
Appearance: A hazy golden straw colour, with a one finger white head, decent retention, and good lacing.
Aroma: Apricot, peach, pineapple with hints of citrus and floral elements.
Taste: Exactly like the aroma. Juicy yet bitter, apricot, peach, mango and citrus rind.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Nice, tasty and easy to drink.

Intro: A 22oz bomber, I think bottled in 2015 (but nothing clearly marked on the bottle). Poured into a snifter.
Appearance: It was black in colour with a dark brown hue on the sides and a one finger mocha head that had decent retention and left some nice small spotty lacing.
Aroma: Orange citrus fruitiness and milk chocolate with hints of roasty coffee and some kind of spiciness.
Taste: Milk chocolate and molasses sweetness, roasted coffee and orange citrus with a hint of dark chocolate bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with low carbonation.
Overall: You’d think that orange and chocolate flavours go well together, and it started off ok enough. But after a while, it just felt a bit too sweet and hard to finish. The orange was overpowering compared to the chocolate and I think it would have been better if it was the other way around. Just didn’t quite work for me.

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Coffee and Cigarettes. A perfect percolation. Blacker than a Milan Espresso. This smoking gun of a stout gives you both barrels. Smoky peat, roasted coffee and bitter chocolate on the nose. Big espresso and molasses on the palate with subtle notes of coconut, vanilla and raisin. Coffee and Cigarettes – for those of us who want to stay up late and drink beer.

Intro: A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 12th March 2022. Poured into a snifter.
Appearance: Black in colour with a half finger mocha head that dissipated quickly except for parts that clung around the glass and sparse spotty lacing.
Aroma: Chocolate and roasty coffee with hints of oak, charcoal, whisky and smoky peat.
Taste: Sweet, smoke, peaty whisky, plum and raisins with only hints of the roasty chocolate and coffee that I got in the aroma.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with light carbonation.
Overall: This was not at all what I was expecting. The roasty chocolate and coffee that was so evident in the aroma was completely overpowered by the strong barrel character of peat and whisky such that in a way, it didn’t feel like an Imperial Stout. That’s not to say that it wasn’t good, but it would definitely help if you enjoy peat like I do. The result seemed like an easy to drink peated whisky minus the kick.

Brewer Description: (from bottle) Dry hopped and barrel aged sour ale brewed with blueberries and blackberries.

Intro: A 375ml bottle, bottled on 19th January 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A hazy reddish colour with an orange hue and a one finger white head which fades quite quickly while leaving some sparse spotty lacing.
Aroma: Lightly tart blueberries amongst other berries, with hints of peach, apricot and mandarin.
Taste: Sour and tart berries with citrusy orange and lemon plus a hint of vanilla and oak. Finish is very sour.
Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with moderate prickly carbonation and a dry finish.
Overall: I wasn’t really sure the vanilla flavour went to well here. I was surprised as I didn’t get this much vanilla in other Almanac sour barrel aged beers. Other than that though, I thought it was pretty tasty.

Brewer Description: (from bottle) A collaboration. Ancient Chinese proverb states: “Man with hole in pocket feels cocky all day.” So true… as true and righteous as this auspicious red ale brewed with Hibiscus and Bai Jiguan Oolong tea. Against the Grain and Moonzen collaborate to celebrate the Year of the Fire Rooster. Tso good you’ll frip out!

Intro: A 650ml bottle with no bottled on or best before date. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A clear copper amber colour with a slightly less than two finger off white head that dissipated fairly quickly and left only sparse lacing.
Aroma: Tea, sweet lychee, flowery with hints of biscuit malt (note: I do not know what hibiscus or Bai Jiguan tea smells or tastes like).
Taste: Sweet fruity like raspberry, light floral tea with a hint of biscuit malt and bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied with light carbonation.
Overall: Taste was a nice mix of fruity and floral. Carbonation was on the light side though which made it a bit tea like/watery. But still, it’s easy to drink and good on a hot day.
